Finally, Dudlers is live.
This was interesting at first, and boring at the end.

Ray Ozzie announced Windows Azure, the new "cloud" operating system from Microsoft. Azure provides on-demand scalability (your application can run on 1% CPU of a single server or on 1000 servers with minimum effort), and storage (SQL Services). Developers will also be able to access Live Services (for building rich social applications) and custom .NET Services.

Azure sounds much like Amazon EC2 (or Google AppEngine? is anyone using that?)

As a tiny advantage, Azure provides auto scalability (Amazon is planning to provide that soon), along with access to other MS corners, such as SharePoint, CRM, etc.

Azure will be hosting non-Microsoft technologies, such as PHP and Python, and BlueHoo.com is the first of that family.

Azure, Mesh, and Silverlight. Can't wait!

"Computer science has some of the most colorful language of any field. In what other field can you walk into a sterile room, carefully controlled at 68F, and find viruses, Trojan horses, worms, bugs, bombs, crashes, flames, twisted sex changers, and fatal errors?" - Steve McConnell, Code Complete

"There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies. The first method is far more difficult" - C.A.R. Hoare

Having my internship at Saudi Aramco I was given the privilege of using an 8 CPU, 4 GB RAM machine, running Windows Server. It felt like the edge of technology.
Later I was told that (and shown pictures of) another server in the company, with 160 GB RAM … a valid question when perceiving this fact would be : "WHY?????"
Anyway, if you think that 2 CPUs and 4 GB of RAM is outdated, consider upgrading to 64 CPUs, 2TB RAM, running Windows Server 2008 Datacenter.

Been working on OurDoodles.net for the last two months.
OurDoodles *should* be a social-doodling web application. (not the brightest idea to spend 6 months on?).
I'm not working on it everyday, and when I do, I only spend 1.5 hours max - so 6 months is acceptable.

I have lately been using the extremely useful open-source tool, Launchy. From the website "Launchy is a free windows utility designed to help you forget about your start menu, the icons on your desktop, and even your file manager.

Launchy indexes the programs in your start menu and can launch your documents, project files, folders, and bookmarks with just a few keystrokes!"
